Lara Croft vs Prince of Persia

by JM

In a duel unlike any gamer has seen, Lara Croft and Prince of Persia face of in a…sing off?

In this funny video, Lara Croft and Prince of Persia face off singing “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” featuring the voices of Bernadette Peters and Tom Wopat from Annie Get Your Gun.

Family Guy Steals from Simpsons

by JM

Obviously I have, once again, missed all the controversy, but this is a bit strange when you look at them side by side…

Family Guy and Simpsons have the same family set up – parents, boy, girl, baby – so you’d expect things to overlap just a bit. Some of these comparisons are a tiny bit of a stretch. But still, put them all in one video like this, you can’t ignore there is a lot that Family Guy does that has been on the Simpsons.

Part One

Part Two

Interesting, isn’t it? Still, I honestly don’t much care. Family Guy and Simpsons still present their comedy in different enough ways for me to like watching both shows.

What do you think about it? Does seeing the comparisons put you off watching Family Guy?

Are You Willing to Get Mad?

by JM

Rowr! Growl! Hiss! This world is a sad place full of YouTube addicts and little misguided punks wandering the streets when they’re not logged into YouTube and deciding what’s popular and what’s not!

Okay, I’m insulting this man a little too much, because he does have a point. We live in a world where obesity equals starvation. (Scientific American, baby. Read it.) The world is getting so small, and yet most of us just want to disconnect from life and sit online, desperate for a good YouTube video.

Hah. I guess you could count me as one of those people, given I write this site.

The Irate Gamer - TMNT Review

by JM

I came across this like I come across most videos – by accident, but I’m glad I did.

The Irate Gamer might come across as a bit of a wanker when he throws his games around the room when he gets mad (he reminds me a bit of my eldest brother in his younger days when he does that, actually) but he does have easy to understand commentary on the games he plays.

This review might seem a bit long for some people by clocking in at 10:25. However, you have to keep in mind he’s actually reviewing more than one game and that people who are genuinely interested in it for the review are likely to overlook the time.

What I like about Irate Gamer is that though he pouts and throws things, he points out the simple things that all gamers are going to understand. They are also the things that can put off even the beginner gamer from playing.

Here are his reviews on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games. Enjoy.

How to Break Up With Your Girlfriend

by JM

I could tell this one was a winner just from the title.

In another sketch from the Tales of Mere Existence, this is a tutorial of how to break up with your girlfriend in…

You read the title.

Simpsons Anime

by JM

I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of anime. I don’t have the resources to watch as much as I’d like, but I do like watching what I can.

The video titles are pretty self explanatory – the Simpsons have been drawn in human anime style.

Part One

Part Two

I think the drawings are great. I don’t like how some of them look – like Homer and Maggie – but I think Marge, Lisa, and Bart look awesome. Smithers looks a bit odd, but funny.

As for Krusty, it could be my dislike of clowns coming through, but he looks just plain creepy.

These all look like they’re from a poster of some sort, so if anyone knows where that can be found, please let me know. I would love to check out the whole thing.

How I Learned About Girls

by JM

‘A fine example of how a socially isolated youth discovered the opposing gender.’ (And another Tale of Mere Existence)

In this video, he talks about growing up with brothers and his lack of experience when it comes to females in general. From playing with female dolls to playing “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours” in his back yard, I think his experience with women was pretty normal for a kid.

How to Survive an Alien Attack

by JM

“But occasionally…they come here to kill us.”

In this documentary-like video, the interviewer talks to the characters of many ‘big’ alien movies about their methods and favourite ways of fighting off alien attacks. From Men in Black to War of the Worlds (very funny depiction of Tom Cruise), you cross pretty much all of the major alien movies – even Alien.

This video is hilarious. They even included Mars Attacks and Starship Troopers. I’m not sure which part is funnier – War of the Worlds or Predator, but they both make this video definitely worth watching.

My only nitpick is that I wish they would have had at least one more guy there to help out with voices. Some of them sounded a bit too similar.

As for the best method? I also prefer the internal explosion technique.

Tales of Mere Existence - Girlfriend at Work

by JM

“A psychological analysis of what happens when you go visit your new girlfriend at work.”

I have already mentioned Tales of Mere Existence a couple of times, but I think the sketches have an appeal in that I often find myself agreeing or saying, “My life is like that, too!” Plus they are often just plain funny.

In this sketch, he humorously talks about the scenario of ‘boyfriend visits girlfriend while she is working’ all in a very scientist-like way with diagrams and everything…

Put simply: do not do it. Watch the video, see what happens to him, and then prevent it from happening to you.

I find the ending especially funny, but you’ll have to watch it to find out what I’m talking about…

Rain Forest Shaman

by JM

I think it is terribly sad that even though we know there are so many healing plants and the possibility of finding even more is almost definite, the rainforests are still being cut down at a massively fast rate.

In this National Geographic video, a respected shaman in Paraguay (which has one of the highest deforestation rates) leads researchers to different places to find certain medicinal plants. One in particular they go to find is of interest to scientists as part of cancer research.

Call me a tree hugger if you like, but the cutting down of rain forests makes me so mad. They keep cutting even though we know there are amazing forms of life in there and possible cures to some of the worst human diseases.

And yet they keep cutting.

Tales of Mere Existence - Depression Advice

by JM

‘If you’re feeling down, go to your Co-Workers, Elders, Family and Friends for help. They are sure to give you great, great advice…’

This is another amusing video from the Tales of Mere Existence. As someone who has suffered from clinical depression, this is truly the advice you get, no matter of you’re a little down or truly clinically depressed.

This video is hilarious because, like the farm boy who becomes kind in a fantasy novel or detective with a drinking problem in a crime or mystery novel, these are the stereotypical responses of people when they find out you’re feeling ‘down’.

I especially love the response of how hard your elders worked, how they were ‘damn grateful’ for everything they had, and none of a modern person’s problems could compare to the problems they had back then…

Ah, people. You have to just shake your head and smile sometimes.

(By the way, if you are suffering from depression, please do take it seriously and get help if you need it. Check out this blog for support.)

Wake Up Cat

by JM

I love this video and I don’t even have a cat at the moment. Perhaps this video should make me glad I don’t have a cat anymore…

This hilarious video features an absolutely adorable cat innocently trying to wake its owner up… (Cat owners are rereading that last line, wondering if I actually said a cat was doing something innocently.) This video is funny and cute, all rolled in to one. Not only that, the ending will at least make you smile if not laugh out loud.

The cat’s last action is completely typical of all the cats I’ve owned, that’s for sure – a mixture of ‘but I’m innocent’ and ‘give me the attention I want right now or I’ll do something even worse’.

Enjoy.

Mario and Luigi’s Sex Education Course

by JM

I don’t know about you, but my sex education course wasn’t anything like this. (And not just because my teacher was a woman and didn’t have a forced Italian accent.)

Like many of the people who commented on this video, I think my sex education would have been a lot less about trying to take a nap and a bit more about learning. It’s amazing what using popular figures can do for young people.

I had no idea those little ghosts in the Mario games were sperm. They must have been confused sperm given how they go after Mario…

Origami Animation

by JM

I hope you like perky music because when you watch this video, you’ll be listening to a lot of it. However, that’s not to say this video isn’t worth watching because it has that kind of music.

This video does a cool two-in-one how-to that I didn’t realize was happening until the end. Not only do you get to see how to make the fold to make a paper crane (several times) you also get to see how they do the stop motion animation.

It’s an excellent video that demystifies the art of stop animation. We all know how they do it, but now we get to see that live action. (People who like the ‘behind the scenes’ and ‘the making of’ specials will really appreciate this video.) All while learning to make an origami crane.

Nice.

Dog Video Dating

by JM

Finding someone nice to date is hard…even when you’re a dog. This video shows a few canines of many different personalities all out just trying to find some love…

This video is hilarious just in the idea, if not for the dog that finally comes out and admits he has no balls. I laughed so hard at the female dog that was obviously playing on a submissive personality looking for a Dom in her life. Very, very funny. Read the rest of this entry »
