Domo-kun Mad World
This video comes from the Live Journal site of someone I met at Conflux. The strange and yet hauntingly beautiful song “Mad World from the film Donnie Darko is set to clips from the Japanese stop-motion series of sketches called Domo-kun.
If you’re not familiar with either the song or Domo-kun…
I had not idea what was going on when I first watched this, but I found the song to be addicting from the first listen. I then began watching it again because I wanted to figure out what was going on with this strange, brown, box-like monster hatched from an egg that never closes his mouth.
For something done without the latest graphics or computer animation, it’s a good short. I like it and I don’t even understand Japanese. (Unlike other Japanese shows I don’t understand and definitely don’t like.)
If you’d like to find out more of the basics on Domo-kun, check out the wikipedia page (like I did).
