March Madness — Psychosis

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

I usually let the muse move me whenever figuring out a topic for these YouTube Digger blogposts. But I thught I should be a little more focused for this month. If you live in America, you hear a lot about March Madness. You hear about March Madness in basketball and you hear about March Madness in retail and car sales. But what about actual madness in March Madness?

So, I’ve decided that for the entire month of March, I’ll find the best or at least most amusing You Tube clips pertaining to the many facets of human insanity. Today, we’ll look at symptoms of psychosis. We use the word “psychotic” all of the time, but do we really know what it means? (Let me add that nowhere in the DSM-IV is the word “psychopath”):

Barney Frank’s Greatest Hits

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I love Barney Frank. No, I don’t want to sleep with him — I just wish he’d move from Massachusetts to the greater Philadelphia area. Why? He’s a Representative in Congress, the Chair of the Finance Services Committee, an excellent debater and is not afraid of asking questions that make people squirm. That’s a rare gem in Washington. I hope he runs for President someday, but then he wouldn’t get to be on television so much.

If you don’t live in America and have no idea what the politics is like, so you have no idea what I’m talking about, I apologize. Go have a cookie.

And now, a collection of Barney Frank’s greatest hits on YouTube.

What The Heck Is AMV?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

I’m the latest in a long line of bloggers for YouTube Digger. When you agree to take on this blog, there are a few things you can’t tamper with from the previous bloggers’ administrations. One of which is that you can’t get rid of any categories established — even if you have no idea what those categories are suppoed to mean.

So, I’ve going down the category list to see which ones that need a new entry and I come to AMV. I’ve been scratching my head over what the heck AMV stands for. It must be short for something and not just a word pronounced “amvuh” or somthing like that. Perhaps it’s the official sound one makes when a pill scratches your throat. “AMV!!!”

The Atheists in Your Neighborhood

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Let’s see — who can we offend today? Well, I’ve had a migraine this week, so I’m tired and need to find a group that offends easily. How about organized religion? Too easy of a target perhaps.

OK, Organized Religion, In the last coupe of years, there’s been a lot of flack from you about atheists and pagans. It seems that both groups have decided that they’d decide to speak up. Today, Organized Religion, let’s look at atheists.

It’s a beautiful day in your neighborhood, but you’re worried about atheists. Well, cheer up — because your neighborhood has always had atheists. Wacky Pagans, too. Both atheists and Pagans share a lot in common — generally, a common hatred of organized religion. It’s always good to know who the enemy is. And the sky has not fallen in the entire time that atheists have existed.

Human Overpopulation

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

If you want to know what’s wrong with this world, the answer is staring at you in the face — human overpopulation. There are just too many people and not enough land, food, water, jobs or parking spaces for all of us. So, we managed to push a few thousand species of plants and animals into extinction in order to make room for ourselves. And still, the birth rate keeps on rising and the suffering rate keeps on rising, too. Take care of the kids already on the ground by not having anymore kids.

But then again, that logic is too simple for most people. This gets into the area of hurting the economy. “Who will take care of you when you’re old and pay the taxes?” Well, quite frankly, the last man on earth will be bitching about the economy. It’s kinda stupid to place fears about lack of money over the facts of the soon-to-be lack of a planet.

Is Sarah Palin Really A Sea Cucumber?

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Please Note: The following is not intended to be in any way insulting to sea cucumbers.

Alaska goveneror Sarah Palin is the rising star of the Republican party, even after bringing disaster to John McCain’s Presidential campaign. Although the Presidential campaign ended over two months ago, Palin still seems to exert a magnetic pull on the nation’s short attention span. She certainly is beloved by liberal-leaning reporters, including MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, who has recently described Sarah Palin as the “all-you-can-eat buffet of polictical scandal, nay — the endless wedge of Velveeta of political scandal.”

Why is she so popular? It can’t be just because America is fascinated by train wrecks. It could be that instead of being human, Sarah Palin is, in fact, an undiscovered species of sea cucucmber that actually masquerades as being human.

Shocking Similarities
Sea cucumbers are found all over the world, and Sarah Palin seems to be found all over the world. And somewhere, surely, is a sea cucumber who can see Russia from it’s house.
A sea cucumber is a creature without a backbone. Sarah Palin is also a creature without a backbone. When provoked, a sea cucumber reacts in self-defence by spewing parts of its digestive system out of its anus to thwart the attacker:

When provoked, Sarah Palin also spills her guts:

They also wave their tentacles in a similar fashion. First up, one moment that makes me so proud that I’m from the Philly area:

In comparison, let’s watch this pink sea cucumber also waving to background music:

So, there’s the evidence. Is Sarah Palin really a sea cucumber? Only time will tell!

People Who Should Die In 2009

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

The last week of the year always brings about glum recollections of all the wonderful folk who have passed away in the previous year. Hey, I’m guilty of this, too. It really puts a damper on any holiday festivities. Wouldn’t it be great that if, in the holidays of 2009, we managed to toast the Grim Reaper’s choices for the year? Sure, we’d all claim to miss the dead (because of the old taboo of speaking ill of the dead) but deep inside, we’d be all a-glow with warmth and cheer.

For more mortal fun, check out The Death List.

Topping the list is runaway winner of Maggots Should Eat Out His Eyes award goes to the dictator of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe. Do you think they’ll play this song at his death and dismemberment?

Next up, just for all of those in the UK, a special choice — Sir Jeffrey Archer. For those in America who aren’t aware of who Jeffrey Archer is, consider yourself lucky. He’s a total Berk. (Look it up). One of the celebritites I met when I lived in England was the guy who was the star witness in the perjury trial who put this bastard away for an unmercifully brief amount of time. I couldn’t actually bring it in myself to put a Jeffrey Archer clip on, so I have something much better — a segment from Room 101 with Kathy Burke and host Paul Merton from 2000:

And, finally, a guy who should have been been hung, drawn and quartered years ago, Pat Robertson. Wouldn’t it be great to toast the New Year drinking champagne out of his empty skull? It certainly would be an improvement to the poison that’s already in there:

If The Shoe Fits…

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Puns, shoes and mash-ups went flying all over the media this week as President Bush nearly got nailed by two loose loafers. Note that the Iranian leader wasn’t phased in the slightest. Sadly, the reporter who threw the shoes in protest was beaten considerably and his fate will most likely be covered up, but at least he has given us the defining moment of the Bush Lack-Of-Presidency.

Since you’ve probably seen the original 65 trillion times (and it just keeps getting funnier every single time, doesn’t it?) we’ll skip looking at the originals and jut go right to the mash-ups on YouTube. First off — the Austin Powers shoe throw:

Next up, the Matrix II: Piece of Shit version:

The Star Wars mix:

Barely Political's Remix:

And could shoe throwing be a new worldwide trend in not only YouTube video mash-ups, but political protests and metaphor? Keith Olbermann looks into it:

Finally, there’s nothing like the classics:

Free Advice Friday

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Sometimes, we all need some free advice in order to get through the day. It might not be good advice but at least it’s free. It used to be that you would write to the Advice Lady in the newspaper for this vital information, but now, all you have to do is enter a random keyword at YouTube and the advice world is your oyster. Today, we sort through some of the most practical advice about politics, religion, creativity and just about everything else on YouTube.

First up is from Stephen King (yes, THAT Stephen King) giving some incredibly valuble advice for anyone longing to one day get their novel published:

In case you’re wondering on why things are so screwed up and want to know who to blame and some other advice, here’s some advice from one of the most intelligent men alive, Christopher Hitchens:

Just in case you do wind up leading a major nation like the UK and have to speak to their Parliment, here is Prime Minister Gordon Brown advising us all what NOT to say in such a situation:

If you aren’t comfortable being yourself or have yet to find yourself, then heed the advice of doing impersonations and getting along with those you impersonate from Kevin Spacey on Enough Rope:

And, if it’s all just too much, here’s some advice from The Kentucky Fried Movie on how to just make it all go away.

So concludes today’s lessons on Free Advice Friday. Join us for the next exciting chapter, same YouTube Digger time, same YouTube Digger channel.

An homage to conventions past

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

At long last we have finally come to the point in time where both major political parties are about to have their respective conventions and get this election season closer to being over with.  In today’s posts we are going to have a look at memorable moments from political conventions past - for better or for worse - and believe me when I say that it can always get worse:

Are You Willing to Get Mad?

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Rowr! Growl! Hiss! This world is a sad place full of YouTube addicts and little misguided punks wandering the streets when they’re not logged into YouTube and deciding what’s popular and what’s not!

Okay, I’m insulting this man a little too much, because he does have a point. We live in a world where obesity equals starvation. (Scientific American, baby. Read it.) The world is getting so small, and yet most of us just want to disconnect from life and sit online, desperate for a good YouTube video.

Hah. I guess you could count me as one of those people, given I write this site.

To End Conflict

Sometimes you have to stand up for what you believe in, and on October 18, 2007, from Tel Aviv and Jericho, the Israeli and Palestinian people will push their leaders for an end to the conflict - an unprecedented People’s Summit to give platform to moderate voices, internationally linked to events held worldwide.

In an awesome show of what people can do when they work together, these people hope to change the world of conflict and worry that their world has turned into. In these days of antisocial, internet addicted, politically apathetic people, this is an amazing show of what humanity can do and has to offer the universe.

If you can find away, please support these people and other groups all over the world who are trying to make the lives of those less fortunate and those in danger better.

National Coming Out Day

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

October 11th is National Coming Out Day! Congratulations to those who are taking the huge step of coming out to their friends and/or other loved ones.

First off, I’d like to give a little link love to my favourite lesbian, Lyndsey. Lyndsey was recently published in the Best Lesbian Love Stories anthology, and she’ll be giving away an autographed copy of her book, so make sure to stop by.

This video not only talks about coming out day and a bit of gay, lesbian, and transgender history, it calls out for you to record your response to the video “telling us what inspires you to live you life openly and honestly.

I think that’s awesome, even though I might get some nasty comments for supporting this. Gays and lesbians put up with so much crap because “homosexuality is a sin and yet I don’t see any adulterers getting bashed in the streets and getting their rights taken away, do you?

Help support the gay and lesbian community by raising awareness and celebrating National Coming Out Day.

Chaser’s War on Everything

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

The Chaser’s War on Everything is one of my favorite televisions shows here in Australia. It’s basically another “nothing is sacred” show, but done with taste and leaning more towards big issues like politics and terrorism. That’s not to say they don’t have a pointless clip or two thrown in there, but they’re definitely many large steps above other shows of this type.

In this clip, the Chasers respond in their own way to the terrorist security response here in Australia where they were trying to stop people from filming and taking pictures of famous landmarks.

See what the difference in response is to a man dressed up as an American tourist, and a man dress “slightly different”.

Enjoy. (more…)

Sicko

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Micheal Moore is at it once again with his latest documentary “Sicko. This documentary focuses on the downfalls of the United States medical system – one point being imprisoned terrorists get better medical treatment than a lot of people.

This is an interview of Moore talking about the movie:
