Our month long look at insanity turns now to look at a figure from history who was known as The Mad Monk — Grigori Efimovich Rasputin. He’s known best for helping ease the pains of hemophillia of the Tsarist family, his huge sexual appetite and that it took him seemingly forever to die (despite being shot and poisoned, it took drowing to finally do him in).

Now, one problem with looking at an historical figure commonly known to be insane is that history is always written by the winners. In this case, the winners were the communist revolutionists of 1917, Russia. But historians of all political persuations seem to agree that he was definitely a whacknoodle, albeit a really entertaining whacknoodle.

This panorama was filmed at about 8.10am after spending 30 mins on the summit and then descending 1800m to the relative safety of Camp 1 at 7100m. You can just see 3 climbers from the south col route about 100m below, approaching the summmit at the end of the clip.”

Woah, I thought there were some bad roads and accident hotspots over here in the UK but obviously nothing compared to this stretch of road through the Lefortovo tunnel in Moscow, Russia. These accidents that have now been circulated and crop up everywhere including YouTube, were captured from monitoring cameras. They make for some pretty interesting but scary moments as cars, trucks and buses all wend their way through the tunnel, and some don’t quite make it out in one piece. (more…)

Being British, Football or Soccer is in my blood, so that explains why I look for clips on the sport on YouTube. What it doesn’t explain is the recnet outbreak of violence that is seemingly creeping on to the pitch! Last week we had, and I posted footage of the Inter Milan and Valencia players going toe to toe with each other at the end of a match. This time it’s the turn of a bitter and idiotic Tottenham supporter to run on to the pitch and try to attack Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard at the end of the FA Cup quarter final replay on Monday. Woah there, this is some strong stuff. This is footage of the fight that took place after a recent Internazionale Vs Valencia soccer game. On Wednesday night the two teams met in the Champions league match in Mestalla with the result being a goaless draw. This meant Valencia went through to the quarter finals, unfortunately the lack of action during the match was totally overturned at the final whistle. The footage comes from Sky Sports and you can hear pundits including Andy Gray giving their opinion. (more…)
