Bangledesh

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I have a client who wants me to write about how Bangledesh should become more eco-friendly and cut down on urban sprawl. Is he kidding me? The poor people in Bangledesh are probably looking forward to the end of the world. Ecological Armageddon would probably be a relief.

Does any good news ever come out of Bangledesh? It seems that’s a place set up to be as bad as possible so their governments rake in all of the charity money. Not that the people (or other critters) of Bangledesh ever see any of it. The first big charity rock concert was in 1971 for Bangledesh, organized by ex-Beatle George Harrison. Fat lot of good that did. But it does make for some interesting YouTube clips.

It’s MLK Day

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Just in case you didn’t aleady know, it’s Martin Luther King, Jr Day. Yes, that’s why the mail didn’t come today, so please stop calling the post office wondering if your local mail carrier is slacking on the job. Many schools and businesses have off, but not entirely to just kick back. Many people across America, including President-Elect Obama, have taken some time out of their day off to devote it to a day of service.

I went to a Christian school which had a lovely (white) history teacher who told us all about how not only that my Native American ancestors were going to burn in hell for devil worship, but that MLK did not deserve any of the respect he was getting because he cheated on his wife and we all know what the Bible says about that. Happy MLK Day, Mr. B! Hope you are having a miserable time!

Hotel California Live

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

I actually have the DVD of The Eagles singing this live, and I love it so much I decided to look it up to post here.

I’m very glad for my upbringing in that I was exposed to what I consider classic songs like this. I’ll be posting up my favorite songs every now and then, so I hope you don’t mind.

Somebody to Love - Queen

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

To be honest, I’ve been this side of exhausted all week. Things seem to pile up, people seem to demand more and more, and there never seems to be enough time in the day to get it all done.

It’s in those moments that I need to find ways to relax.

There’s no better way in the world for me to relax than to listen to the classic hits I love, and you don’t get much more classic than Queen.

I picked out this lovely bit rather than Bohemian Rhapsody not because I want to insult the BR crowd but because this is one of my favorite songs. It’s not quite as well known as BR, and I think it deserves its time in the spotlight. Not only because it’s relaxing and another stroke of Queen genius but because the moment he hits that note and just belts it out (you’ll know what I mean when you watch the video), I sigh contentedly and smile.

So enjoy some more Queen awesomeness, because there is never enough.
