Hello From YouTube Digger’s New Blogger

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Hi. My name’s Rena Sherwood (if you couldn’t tell by the little blue rectangle) and I’ve plunged headlong into taking over this blog. For those of you who recognize my name (both of you), you’ll know that I also write for two other blogs on 451 Press, Dealing With Headaches and Depression Talk.

So, why did I take on YouTube Digger? Simple. I was sick to death of constantly checking on this site and not finding anything new. I thought it would be a heck of a lot easier to just become the new blogger rather than wait for someone else to take over the job.

Besides — $20 is $20.

And So It Begins

With making a grand entrance in mind, let’s take a look at some of the great opening themes in television history, according to my incredibly slanted point of view. For a combination of cool and kitsch, let’s take a look at the opening to the 1965 season of Get Smart.

Ahh, refreshing, wasn’t it? So, if you want a little more sophistication with your spies, let’s look to a surreal show across the Pond called The Prisoner. Also, just a explanation to all the kids — that thing shown about 1:20 into the clip is called a typewriter.

I always wondered why Number Six bothered to announce his resignation. The lesson here is that if you’re a spy, don’t announce your resignation. Just quietly leave the country and never come back to work.

Finally

In conclusion, for sheer lunacy, let’s look at the opening to It’s Gary Shandling’s Show. WARNING: You may have this theme stuck in your head for the next twenty years. You’re welcome.)

Farewell.

It’s time I take my leave here from YouTube Digger. I’ve had an excellent time cruising the YouTube world and finding awesome videos, it’s time for me to move on to different spaces.

Thank you for all your comments and support. Hopefully there will be another writer to supply you with YouTube goodness soon.

You’ll still be able to find me at Fiction Scribe, Long Relationships, The Book Stacks, and Write Anyway.

Regards,

JM

Hiatus

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Instead of leaving everyone to think I’m a slacker blogger, I wanted to let you know I’m quite ill at the moment. I’m to the point of being even too exhausted to blog from bed.

I’ll be back to normal soon, but until then, posting might be a bit sporadic.

Thank you for your time and patience.

~JM

Back in Action

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

book-stack.jpgHello everyone!

I’m back from the writer’s conference – Conflux – and vacation, and I’m feeling good. I apologize for the lack of answering comments, but internet connections weren’t exactly abundant. I didn’t much care to work during my vacation anyway.

I hope you all enjoyed banned books week. A truly heartfelt thank you goes out to all of you who supported me on Fiction Scribe in my time of upset. I’m in the process of getting the rest of my books sent out here ASAP. I’ll also be buying another copy of the destroyed book when I can afford it. (Shipping to Australia…bah.)

I’ve answered all the comments now and am catching up on other news. If there’s anything I missed that you think I should know about you can, as always, feel free to contact me.

I’m very excited about NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo coming up next month. Keep checking in at Fiction Scribe because I have a little prize I’m going to give to one NaBloPoMo participant. I’d like to do something a little different in November as far as posting goes to go along with the events, but I’m not sure what to do. If you have any ideas, let me know.

I sincerely apologize for the quality of the posts over the last week (minus Allison’s guest post) but being ill and preparing for Conflux got to me. I’ll be back in action to the best of my ability now as things settle down and I get back into regular life.

If you have any videos you’d like to see put up here or would like to guest post a dig, feel free to contact me. I’m happy to talk to people about it.

Improving You Tube Digger

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Would you like to see something new and different on this site? Do you wish there were more site games? Or do you like things just as they are and want to see things stay on this way?

I’m posting this as a place to post your ideas and comments about the site. I can’t say I’ll implement all ideas, but I would like to know if there’s something you’d like to see on this site.

Making the YouTube

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Six tips for making a great YouTube music video.

1. Don’t use the same scene for each chorus. While it makes sense lyrically, repeating the same scene for each chorus in the song does nothing for me visually. In fact, it gets rather annoying. Using similar scenes in action, color, or both is perfectly fine. People who pay attention will like your attention to detail. Using the same scene for each chorus could well be used as ‘the easy way’ to make a video.

2. Check your final product. When a video is up and it’s fuzzy, pixilated, or otherwise unpleasant to view, only a very, very good song is going to keep me in my seat until the end, and even then I won’t be watching your video, much less commenting on it or rating it well.

3. Create your own style. Well viewed doesn’t necessarily mean well made. Being successful on YouTube can gain you as well as your website a lot of attention. It is well worth it to hone your skills and your style so you stand out. It will make for better videos.

4. Make your introduction short, and use a sound effect rather than a song. A long introduction is just annoying, and you really need all of three seconds to introduce yourself and your video. Those three seconds would be more ‘stand out’ if you used a sound effect rather than a short song clip. You don’t want people wondering what the song was they just heard instead of watching your video.

5. Don’t end with a different song. I find this so incredibly annoying, especially when I like the song in the video but don’t care for the song playing during the credits. Credits are all fine and well, but try playing the song again at a lowered volume during the credits or even the instrumental version of the song.

6. Introduce your site at the end. Sites introduced at the beginning are soon and easily forgotten, while sites introduced at the end will be better remembered and even more often visited if it’s a good video. I have never once gone to a site listed at the beginning of the video, but I’ve visited plenty of websites owned by people who presented a great video.

Use these quick tips (if you aren’t already) and learn how to get the viewer numbers you really want.

The New Digger

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Hello, all!

Yes, I am the new female YouTube Digger. However, that doesn’t mean the T and A goodness is dead.

I hope to keep up the level of YouTube goodness Dave had going here as well as add my own little spin to make this blog my own.

If you have any ideas for the blog or any videos you’d like to see put up and commented on, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you Dave for the lovely introduction.

Let’s get started…

We’re Due A New YouTube Digger…

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Yes dear readers, all three of you…mum, dad and brother, this will be my last post on YouTube Digger. I’ve decided you may have had enough of my Tom Cruise fascination and snarky comments about various YouTube personalities. I’ve enjoyed my tenure here, and writing witty posts for you morons who read my crappy insights, but it’s time to move on.

Luckily, a new writer is already on her way in… and being female (I’ve never had the pleasure but she at least looks feminine) I think a refreshing change is in store. No more will there be tits and asses strewn across your screen. The free porn will have to stop as well. What? What do you mean “Where’s the porn?“, you clearly didn’t look hard enough, so it’s time to go looking back over the archives!

Please give the new Digger some love, she’s a brilliant writer. As for me, well, I’ll still be blogging over at Pop Buzz UK, so if you find yourself missing my unfunny posts, come see me there. I’ll also be writing a British music blog over at the new b5media music channel, so come say “Hi“. As for YouTube? My love affair will continue, and you may well see me pitch up on a different site soon!

Au revoir… :)

New YouTube Digger Banner And Things!

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Look, up there, yes, above you, see what that is? It’s a spunky new banner for YouTube Digger, and it’s a work of genius!

The 451 Press network has finally relented and let us design and post our own banners for our blogs. I’m sure you’ll agree it makes a welcome addition to the blog, and makes your friendly YouTube video blogger stand out from the crowd a wee bit. Ok, so I’m not exactly beating the YouTube blog for traffic quite yet, but I’m getting there slowly.
