I hope you have enjoyed this month’s focus on human madness. We’ve looked at various insanity symptoms, famous nutters and ways to make yourself utterly mad. But no look at madness would be complete without looking at Madness — the British pop band, best known for the 1980’s hit “Our House”. (Although I see from Wikipedia that their musical genres include ska, New Wave (which really should be renamed after all this time) and 2 Tone.)
Whether you are in or out of a relationship, no one’s a winner on Valentine’s Day. You either feel miserable that you don’t have anyone to shag or you’re miserable because you either forgot it was Valentine’s Day or you got the wrong gift. Or, even worse, you can’t get out of a relationship with someone who adores you but you can’t stand any more. This feeling of misery may make you think that you are the only person in the world having a crappy Valentine’s Day.
You’d be wrong. You can take comfort in the face that many millions are having an even crappier Valentine’s Day than you are. Let’s celebrate together with a few YouTube clips, shall we? (more…)
I’m the latest in a long line of bloggers for YouTube Digger. When you agree to take on this blog, there are a few things you can’t tamper with from the previous bloggers’ administrations. One of which is that you can’t get rid of any categories established — even if you have no idea what those categories are suppoed to mean.
So, I’ve going down the category list to see which ones that need a new entry and I come to AMV. I’ve been scratching my head over what the heck AMV stands for. It must be short for something and not just a word pronounced “amvuh” or somthing like that. Perhaps it’s the official sound one makes when a pill scratches your throat. “AMV!!!” (more…)
My dream life is far better than my waking life. I tend to think of my dream life as my real life and my waking life as serving my time in Hell. One of the nicest things about dreams is that you can get to the point where you recognise that you are dreaming.
And then the fun begins.
Some people are born knowing how to lucid dream and some have to be taught. Anyone can learn how to dream lucidly. Lucid dreaming (where you are aware that you are dreaming and can to some extent control them) was taught by Tibetan monks and many aboriginal peoples in order to help get a better perspective on life. Some things that are so important to us in waking life mean nothing in the long term — because after we wake up, it’ll all fade away. (more…)
I’ve fugured out what the world needs more of — dragons. And I’m not talking about sports mascots or the lizard from the Komodo Islands, but real, honest-to-goodness dragons. Of course, there is that little bugaboo about dragons perhaps not being real creatures, but if we can make enough dragons through incredibly cool animated YouTube clips, then perhaps dragons will suddenly pop into existence. Heck, if billions of people can firmly believe in an invisible God, why not invisible dragons?
One of the great things about drawing or sculpting dragons is that you don’t have to worry about being anatomically accurate — because there’s no dragon anatomy textbooks to compare your final work to. So, in this way, any dragon you draw or animate looks like it could be a real dragon … if there were such things as real dragons.
Let the Dragon Parade of YouTube Clips begin. First up, a litle animation from ChinaOnTV.com. Thanks to “lamsike” for putting this up:
Next up is a very short stop-mtion film featuring a second generation Fischer-Price dragon. (Yes — I used to have one. I had a first generation, too, but sadly both perished when my home burnt down. I honestly don’t think the dragons had anything to do with it.) The embedding is diabled by request, so you need to click to see “The Dragon”.
Hello and welcome back. Ever wonder how to draw a dragon? Here’s a really quick lesson from “cgsbgs” which posted the steps to his dragon painting done in 27 minutes, but compressed down to three minutes in “Speed Painting of a Dragon”:
And, finally, we have what every animated dragon movie needs — dialogue from Father Ted Genius! And, uhh, not that much different from the original TV show:
Hey, all you Pagans there. Okay — all of you non-Pagans can join in. Today is the winter solstice, which is traditionally one of the most celebrated days of the year. From now on, the sunlight will be getting longer, proving that once again the promise of spring is not a false one. This was what was originally celebrated this time of year with feasting. This was such a central day in the year of our ancestors, that they went to great lengths to mark it.
Every year, the winter solstice moves, which makes it fall anywhere from December 20 - 23 on the current calander. Every year, I’m taken by surprise on which day it actually falls. Every year, it seems to come sooner and sooner. (more…)
Australians might not celebrate Halloween as widely as other places, but I thought I’d get into the Halloween spirit anyway and post up a twisted video.
Hitchhikers are a pretty classic part of horror story history for decades now, and this video plays one that element quite well.
When a woman, all alone except for her dog, pick up a hitchhiker, only bad things can happen when the dog is the only thing keeping the hitchhiker from touching her…
Then the dog falls asleep…
I have to say I saw the ending of this one coming for the most part. The dog (you’ll see what I mean) I didn’t expect, but otherwise… It’s still a good creepy short and quite enjoyable.
In a duel unlike any gamer has seen, Lara Croft and Prince of Persia face of in a…sing off?
In this funny video, Lara Croft and Prince of Persia face off singing “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better featuring the voices of Bernadette Peters and Tom Wopat from Annie Get Your Gun.
Obviously I have, once again, missed all the controversy, but this is a bit strange when you look at them side by side…
Family Guy and Simpsons have the same family set up – parents, boy, girl, baby – so you’d expect things to overlap just a bit. Some of these comparisons are a tiny bit of a stretch. But still, put them all in one video like this, you can’t ignore there is a lot that Family Guy does that has been on the Simpsons.
Part One
Part Two
Interesting, isn’t it? Still, I honestly don’t much care. Family Guy and Simpsons still present their comedy in different enough ways for me to like watching both shows.
What do you think about it? Does seeing the comparisons put you off watching Family Guy?
I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of anime. I don’t have the resources to watch as much as I’d like, but I do like watching what I can.
The video titles are pretty self explanatory – the Simpsons have been drawn in human anime style.
Part One
Part Two
I think the drawings are great. I don’t like how some of them look – like Homer and Maggie – but I think Marge, Lisa, and Bart look awesome. Smithers looks a bit odd, but funny.
As for Krusty, it could be my dislike of clowns coming through, but he looks just plain creepy.
These all look like they’re from a poster of some sort, so if anyone knows where that can be found, please let me know. I would love to check out the whole thing.
‘A fine example of how a socially isolated youth discovered the opposing gender.’ (And another Tale of Mere Existence)
In this video, he talks about growing up with brothers and his lack of experience when it comes to females in general. From playing with female dolls to playing “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours in his back yard, I think his experience with women was pretty normal for a kid.
“But occasionally…they come here to kill us.
In this documentary-like video, the interviewer talks to the characters of many ‘big’ alien movies about their methods and favourite ways of fighting off alien attacks. From Men in Black to War of the Worlds (very funny depiction of Tom Cruise), you cross pretty much all of the major alien movies – even Alien.
This video is hilarious. They even included Mars Attacks and Starship Troopers. I’m not sure which part is funnier – War of the Worlds or Predator, but they both make this video definitely worth watching.
My only nitpick is that I wish they would have had at least one more guy there to help out with voices. Some of them sounded a bit too similar.
As for the best method? I also prefer the internal explosion technique.
“A psychological analysis of what happens when you go visit your new girlfriend at work.
I have already mentioned Tales of Mere Existence a couple of times, but I think the sketches have an appeal in that I often find myself agreeing or saying, “My life is like that, too! Plus they are often just plain funny.
In this sketch, he humorously talks about the scenario of ‘boyfriend visits girlfriend while she is working’ all in a very scientist-like way with diagrams and everything…
Put simply: do not do it. Watch the video, see what happens to him, and then prevent it from happening to you.
I find the ending especially funny, but you’ll have to watch it to find out what I’m talking about…
‘If you’re feeling down, go to your Co-Workers, Elders, Family and Friends for help. They are sure to give you great, great advice…’
This is another amusing video from the Tales of Mere Existence. As someone who has suffered from clinical depression, this is truly the advice you get, no matter of you’re a little down or truly clinically depressed.
This video is hilarious because, like the farm boy who becomes kind in a fantasy novel or detective with a drinking problem in a crime or mystery novel, these are the stereotypical responses of people when they find out you’re feeling ‘down’.
I especially love the response of how hard your elders worked, how they were ‘damn grateful’ for everything they had, and none of a modern person’s problems could compare to the problems they had back then…
Ah, people. You have to just shake your head and smile sometimes.
(By the way, if you are suffering from depression, please do take it seriously and get help if you need it. Check out this blog for support.)
